Bridging the Gap: A Discussion on Engaging the African Diaspora for Economic and Social Development

In this 45-minute session, we will explore the role of the African diaspora in driving development and change on the continent. Our esteemed speakers, Maudo Jallow from the Tony Blair Institute and Jake Obeng-Bediako from the Ghanaian government’s diasporan affairs office, will share their experiences in the field of diaspora engagement and the challenges and opportunities of driving change in Africa.

The speakers will delve into the importance of harnessing the skills and resources of the African diaspora to drive economic and social development on the continent, and the role of governments and international organizations in facilitating diaspora engagement.

The session will also explore recurrent relevant topics such as:

  • The potential impact of remittances and investment from the diaspora on economic growth in Africa
  • The challenges of engaging with a diverse and dispersed diaspora community
  • Strategies for building effective partnerships between governments, organizations, and the diaspora to drive change in Africa
  • The importance of promoting inclusive and equitable diaspora engagement, including gender and youth empowerment

Through a deep and insightful conversation, it fosters attendees with the unique chance to further extend their network through a unique platform dedicated to the exchange of knowledge, projects and ideas.
